Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, the number of requests for emergency aid from UW Tacoma students has reached levels never before experienced. Contributions from donors like you have made it possible for every student who has sought emergency aid to receive the help they need. However, the economic ripple effects of this crisis continue to be felt in our campus community. The generosity of our UW alumni and friends will be critical in the months to come.
Victoria Hill, Director of Financial Aid at UW Tacoma, recently shared with us insight into her experience working with students during this challenging time. We found her words moving and we think you will too:
“Having the additional funds is very helpful for us as staff because it allows for us to have the means to extend some help. It doesn’t necessarily solve everything, but students have been extremely grateful for the help they’ve received through Emergency Aid (EA). For example, many students have cried to us from the tremendous relief they have when they hear we (university and their donors) are able to give them some help. It’s a very emotional time for all of us, as that generally gets us (staff) crying with them.”
We are grateful for all of you who have joined our partnership in supporting UW Tacoma students. We cannot do this important work without you. Thank you!
To our UW Tacoma community,
Thank you so much to all of you who have recently contributed to the UW Tacoma COVID-19 Emergency Student Fund. In a matter of days, the collective generosity of donors like you has elevated our ability to support UW Tacoma students facing precarious financial circumstances as a result of this global crisis.
Since early March, we have provided emergency grants and scholarships to more than 110 students at our Tacoma campus. Donor support has been critical as we continue hearing from new students everyday who need our help during this challenging time.
We will continue to keep you updated on our progress. In the meantime, we hope you will share this message with your fellow UW community members and encourage them to join our partnership. Together, we are making all the difference for our students.
Thank you!
