What is Together UW?
Together UW is UW's official crowdfunding platform. It’s an online tool to help students, faculty members and staff raise money for everything from UW research projects to class trips and competitions. It’s a way for the community to contribute directly to the world-changing work happening across our three campuses.
How does it work?
We provide the technology and show you how to use it, and then you raise funds from your own network — you’ll be soliciting support from your friends, peers, etc. Annual Philanthropy and the University of Washington will not be actively soliciting for your project on your behalf — that part is up to you and your project leaders and champions!
How can I apply to host a project?
Any UW student, faculty or staff member may apply. You must have a departmental affiliation and/or adviser and access to a UW account that can accept contributions. Please fill out the application form: Apply Here!
What does it take to have a successful project?
You will need:
- A compelling story with a 1–2 minute video that clearly illustrates your need
- Willingness to reach out to a large network of friends for support
- A creative communication plan that reaches beyond UW alumni and friends
- Time and effort invested in planning, launching, and fundraising for your campaign
What will be considered for a crowdfunding project?
- Costs associated with student competitions/groups
- Travel costs
- Equipment
- Campaigns focused on participation goals as opposed to dollar goals (e.g., 150 donations from the class of 2019)
What will not be considered for a crowdfunding project?
- Faculty or staff salaries
- Building campaigns
- Money for tuition
Note: UW Crowdfunding is not an incubator and will not accept projects designed to raise profits.
Gifts to the UW enrich student educational opportunities, support ground-breaking research, and strengthen programs that benefit the community and world at large.

Gifts of securities (tax id# 91-6001537) may have additional tax benefits.
As is customary with universities and other non-profit organizations, a gift assessment is applied to select current use gifts upon their receipt, providing essential support to the University of Washington’s advancement efforts and institutional priorities. The assessment is 5 percent and applies only to contributions over $1,000 and under $5 million.
Since 1990, endowed gifts are assessed an annual fee of 1 percent of a five-year rolling average, which supports the UW’s advancement efforts and offsets internal investment management costs.
Please visit My UW Giving where you can track your giving history, print gift receipts and more.
