A Message from Dean Eddie Uehara
I hope you are all staying safe and well during this extremely challenging time. Many of you have reached out in recent days with concerns about our students and the communities we serve. I want to assure you that our leadership team has been working nearly around the clock to anticipate faculty, staff and student needs and to identify resources that will allow us to carry out essential teaching, learning and field work in the months to come.
Social workers are essential first responders during this crisis. I am working with local and state social-service leaders to strategize how our profession and our students can have the greatest possible impact and can help identify and meet the needs of the most vulnerable in these circumstances, including older adults and people who are housing and food insecure, economically disadvantaged, or marginalized in other ways.
Right now, we have many students in need. Some are facing reduced hours or layoffs from their jobs and are wondering how they will pay for groceries, rent or unanticipated medical expenses. We are seeking to help our BASW, MSW and PhD students who are experiencing financial hardship. The School of Social Work will match all gifts up to a total of $25,000. I hope you will consider contributing to the fund today so that we can help support students whose aspirations to serve the most vulnerable in our society are in serious jeopardy
We will get through this, together. These days are truly unprecedented. I hope you will consider contributing to the emergency fund so we can help support our students whose aspirations to serve the most vulnerable in our society are in jeopardy.
Thank you for being part of our incredible community, and I wish you all well in the days ahead.
Very warmest regards,
Dean Eddie Uehara
