UW Horse Show 2020

This is a fundraising campaign to support our 2020 Horse Show and relieve financial stress on our members. This year we are hosting a Western Show and the Zone 8 Region 4 Championship at the Evergreen Equestrian Park. Our team of 40 members works year-round to put on the best show possible for our region. We will be inviting over 30 horses and more than eight universities for a day of competition. Our goal is to demonstrate exceptional horsemanship on any horse and develop community within our intercollegiate organization, IHSA. Above all else, our team is passionate about creating an environment where horseback riding is accessible to all members of the University of Washington, regardless of financial ability. Our team is always growing and so are our goals. Your support essential to our success!

Where your money is going:

Your funds will contribute directly to our competition, allowing us to rent our arena, obtain ribbons, hire our judge, hire our EMT, rent stalls, obtain shavings, and recruit horses.  In addition to competition expenses, it will also go towards our member's expenses to compete.  The average show fee is $40 per class, so for one rider to attend a show, it costs them $80 to compete, plus about $25-$50 for our lodging.  Our intent is to fully be able to cover these expenses for our members.  For our riders who make it beyond regionals, they are flying to locations such as New York, and Utah.  This travel is often beyond the budget of a college student and pushes people beyond their means.  If we are successful in our campaign, we will be able to cover this as well, allowing more of our members to compete at an exceptional level.

What a show looks like:

IHSA is a bit different from a traditional horse show.  Riders do not bring their own horses, the horses are volunteered by the host school, and riders are randomly assigned a horse.  The intent of this is to level the playing field as much as possible.  Riders are judged on their ability to perform a set of maneuvers, or a jumping course, on an unfamiliar horse, with precision, and nearly invisible communication between the rider and the horse.  We compete in Zone 8, Region 4, and a given show has members from many schools including Washington State University, Western Washington University, University of British Columbia, Oregon State University, University of Oregon, and of course The University of Washington.  Your contributions will allow us to continue competing at a high intercollegiate level, and remove the barrier of finances for our members.
